Immunity

Many people think it is cold weather that makes us more susceptible to ills and chills, but that’s not actually the case. A bigger issue is that during colder months we’re more inclined to stay warm and toasty indoors.

Unfortunately, that means we are in closer and more constant proximity to other people. If someone around us gets sick, we are more likely to catch their bugs. With their still-developing immune systems and tendency to spend lots of time with others their own age, kids are more susceptible than adults, and can average as many as 10 bouts of ills and chills a year. The adult immune system is more robust, but can still average two to four bouts a year.

Our immune system works hard to identify constantly changing immune threats and to go to battle against them. There are a number of measures you can take to support your immune system and your body’s defences against winter bugs. Common sense strategies like practising good personal hygiene, getting plenty of sleep, eating nutritious antioxidant-rich fruit and vegetables, and making sure you exercise on a regular basis are a great start.

Taking olive leaf extract may also help, as olive leaves have traditionally been used to support the functioning of the immune system and help  bolster the body’s immune defences.

Comvita® fresh-picked™ Olive Leaf extract has five times the antioxidant activity of vitamin C
(as ascorbic acid), giving olive leaf the edge when it comes to free radical scavenging ability.

Freshly prepared olive leaf extract has also been shown in recent research to support cardiovascular and blood glucose health. It is also one of the products Comvita gets a lot of feedback on – how effective it is for everyday health and vitality. Anecdotal benefits include increased energy, sleep support, healthy skin and nails, and support for joint health.
