Sticking to your health goals over Easter can be a tricky task! But with some planning and creative ideas, you can celebrate without throwing your healthy-eating pattern out the window, while still enjoying some sweet treats.
Eat mindfully
Treat yourself on Easter Sunday, but not the days that follow. Eat slowly, share food with others, and stop before you overdo it.
Go for quality, not quantity
Buying less and going for smaller portion sizes means you’re more likely to savour every bite!
Mix up the menu
Don’t just serve chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate! There are plenty of other foods to add to the mix. Seasonal fruit and veggies, and real eggs work a treat, and are more nutritious and filling than the alternative. Check out our recipes for a bunny bread bowl and gluten-free hot cross buns.
Plan activities
Being an especially long weekend, it’s the perfect time to kick back with family and friends. You can play sports, hunt for Easter eggs, or go for walks. Get active and focus on the activities, rather than overindulging.
Get creative with Easter baskets
When putting together Easter baskets, don’t limit yourself to just chocolate. There are plenty of other basket fillers that will last longer than chocolate and be just as exciting. Here are a few edible and non-edible ideas:
Chocolate covered fruit – dip strawberries, grapes or banana slices in melted chocolate, and wait for it to dry.
Individually-wrapped treats – smaller portions that are individually-wrapped offer inbuilt portion control.
Dark chocolate – choosing chocolate with 70 percent or more cocoa or cacao (even better) is a much healthier option than regular chocolate.
Carrots – the Easter Bunny loves carrots and so should you! Wrap a few carrot sticks with ribbons, or fill cellophane bags with baby carrots. Get fancy by adding a pottle of hummus as a dip!
Hard-boiled eggs – Why not add some real eggs to baskets this year? Each egg provides 6 grams of protein, and is full of omega 3 fatty acids. To get a little more artistic, check out our ideas to decorate hard-boiled eggs.
Chalk – unleash creativity with a pack of chalk!
Skipping rope – great for kids and adults alike, skipping ropes are budget-friendly and full of potential.
Lip balm – chap sticks and lip balms make perfect stocking stuffers and Easter basket fillers. Try our Antipodes Kiwi Seed Oil Lip Conditioner for a luxurious natural lip moisturiser.
Gift cards – who doesn’t love a gift card? Possibly one of the easiest gifts to buy, gift cards allow the receiver to reap rewards even after Easter has come and gone.
