Beauty tips from a skincare expert
Stephanie Malcolm from New Zealand's organic skincare brand Antipodes stopped by Sydney last week to share her amazing skincare tips. Steph has the most amazing skin so I was very excited to hear how we can achieve the same!

What is the best way to apply your skincare?

My tips for applying your daily skincare are:

1. Less is more. We tend to think using more product will be better for our skin but that's not the case as excess product can get stuck under our skin and cause breakouts. Most people need just a 10c amount of cleanser and moisturiser.

2. Spend at least 30 seconds massaging your moisturiser into the skin. First warm it in the palm of your hands, then massage into the skin in an upwards motion. This stimulates blood circulation and activates muscles in the face while getting rid of toxins and blockages.

3. Apply eye cream delicately around the eye, tapping gently from the inside near the nose out to the temples.

4. Spritz toner on the skin after your shower,
then follow with moisturiser to really lock the moisture in.

What are your favourite skincare ingredients?

I love Hibiscus Flower, it's great for brightening the skin as well as being an anti-inflammatory. Manuka honey is amazing, it's a natural anti-bacterial ingredient and amazing for healing the skin. Avocado is not just good for you on the inside, but avocado oil is brilliant on the skin as it has excellent regenerative properties and is packed with anti-ageing antioxidants. And of course Vinanza Grape, a quintessential antioxidant from New Zealand's sauvignon blanc grape seeds that helps repair free radical damage and is scientifically shown to have amongst the world's highest levels of antioxidants, to keep your skin hydrated, firm and smooth. It's the first time it's being used in skincare so we're very excited.

What's the best skincare routine for summer?

As our skin sweats in summer we often get pimples or heat rash on our chest, arms and face. Cleanse the skin really well. If you have oily skin use a toner to regulate your skin's sebum levels, and follow with a light moisturiser. If you have dry skin spritz with a toner then smooth on a hydrating cream. Always use an SPF during the day but avoid using a cream with SPF at night as your skin doesn't need that sun protection while you sleep. A nourishing night cream is best to restore moisture after these long hot days.

Why is toner essential in your skincare routine?

Toner used to be an integral part of every woman's skincare routine, but as women became busier - and with most toner's being too harsh and leaving your skin damaged - it became seen as an unnecessary product. Toner is essential in rebalancing your skin, regulating sebum levels and locking in moisture. It's wonderful to use - just spritz on after cleansing and before using moisturiser, and just spritz throughout the day, especially in summer.

What are your favourite skincare products?

I love our Organic Ananda Anti-oxidant Rich Toner which is amazing for sensitive skin. It's made with pure New Zealand Waiwera artesian water which has been voted "Worlds Best Water" and is packed with natural minerals. It also contains raspberry extract which is high in omegas and Mamaku black fern which stimulates healthy cells.

Another favourite is our Grapeseed Butter Cleanser, which is so amazing even on oily skin types. It can be used 3 ways: as a cleanser, as a daily exfoliator and as a beautiful face mask. It contains nourishing cocoa butter and that wonderful Vinanza Grape.
